I thought I would introduce myself. My name is Mark Fenwick (also known as Fen). I'm a creative misfit, nature lover, and reader of books, and I often feel lost in the mists of time…
I struggle with this modern world and always have, but especially now. I long to be in nature, and feel deeply entwined with the land. When I feel connected with the natural realm, it's the only time I truly feel alive.
At school, my favourite lessons were art and mathematics. I was a shy quiet happy child living in a world of my own. In this world where the imagination ruled, anything was possible!
After leaving school and an office job, I went into the cycle trade (pedal cycle, not motorcycle). For the first 10 years of that time, I lived and breathed cycling and art. Working only part-time, I spent the rest of my time riding my bike (some weeks riding 300 miles plus) and creating my art.
After hanging up my racing wheels, I continued to cycle for general fitness and pleasure. Cycling is a beautiful thing. But I wasn’t just a keen cyclist; I was and still am an enthusiastic walker. Nothing gives me greater enjoyment than trekking out into the great outdoors.
For 20 years I used the local Art College's printmaking and darkroom facilities to pursue my creativity.
My inspiration for my art comes from the landscape, the Neo-romantic painters, poets, philosophers, mathematics, mystery, and the magic of life.
Another passion is books and reading. I'm also fascinated with things from the past such as vintage photographs and prints. I love anything that is quirky and strange and surrounded with mystery.
I like seeing new things. As I travel along the path of life, I continue to be open and constantly curious. My soul craves freedom and balance.
And finally, I yearn for the loneliness of the open road, the denseness of a forest, the emptiness of the mountains, the coldness of the sea, and a starlit sky...
Here are some tips for living a beautiful life:
Reading helps. Loving and being loved helps. Opening one's eyes to the positive and beautiful helps.
To see the sea and listen to the landscape helps. It opens windows to your mind and portals to your soul…
Be creative. Create something wonderful. Create at every opportunity. Life is a work of art.
