Some people have a preferred and optimum time of day to create because it's when inspiration seems to flow unhindered. It's when they feel the most motivated. Some creators are night owls and are inclined to work best when it's dark. Others are early birds and feel a rush of inspiration at sunrise.
Typically, this prime creative time tends to last for 60 minutes at its peak, and can be the most highly productive hour of the day. Some are fortunate to peak for much longer.
In reality, many of us create whenever we are free to do so but some people instinctively know their genius hour(s) and will move heaven and earth to create at these times.
To discover your best time to focus on your ceative projects, try the following:
+ Whenever you feel an insistent urge to create, pay attention and notice whether these urges seem to arise at a similar time each day.
+ Track your creativity over the course of seven days. Create at different times of day, and note when you felt the most inspired, focused and productive.
+ Consider how you feel when you’re at your most creative. Are you relaxed and at ease? Are you feeling energised? Observe your emotional environment, and how this might affect your creative output.
Of course, many people struggle to find any spare time for creative pursuits. Life has a habit of getting in the way. By identifying your peak productivity time, it might be possible to shift your schedule / daily routines so that you can take advantage of your genius hour.
Seize the opportunity to create at this time on a regular basis. Start something new, gain momentum on a project or use this inspired period to finish what you've started.
